A Moon journal for iPhone

A journal that keeps time with the Moon.

Each day Welkin shows where the Moon is among the 27 nakshatras, a short reading on the mood it tends to bring, and one question to sit with. Write a few lines, or just check in.

Each day

Where the Moon is, and what it tends to bring.

Open Welkin and the day starts with the Moon, drawn from real lunar imagery in its true phase, inside the ring of the 27 nakshatras.

  1. 1The ring of 27The Moon passes through 27 nakshatras each month, about a day in each. The ring shows where it stands now, with the coming new moon, full moon and eclipses marked on it.
  2. 2What comes nextWhen the Moon enters the next nakshatra, and when the next new or full moon arrives.
  3. 3A short readingA few sentences on the mood this part of the month tends to bring: restlessness, the pull to withdraw, the need to be seen. Tendencies to notice, never predictions.
  4. 4Your last day, and one questionA few lines on where the Moon has been since yesterday, then one question drawn from the stretch you have just lived through.

Write or check in

A few lines, or just your energy.

Writing is never required. Answer the question, start anywhere, or mark your energy from 1 to 5 and close the app. Each entry keeps a note of where the Moon was.

Reminders are optional: a heads-up 3 days and the evening before each new moon, full moon and eclipse, a short note when the Moon enters a new nakshatra, and once a day at a time you choose.

Writing an entry: the Moon's nakshatra and phase at the top, the day's story and question, and an energy row from low to high.

The echo

The Moon returns. So do your words.

About a month later the Moon comes back to the same nakshatra. When it does, Welkin shows you what you wrote the last time it was there. Over the months you start to notice what changes, and what keeps coming back.

About the readings

Built on Jyotish, used for reflection.

Welkin follows the Moon through Jyotish, the Vedic astrology of India. Here it is a tool for reflecting on your moods and inner patterns, not for predicting events.

The readings describe moods and tendencies to notice. They don't tell you what will happen or what to do. They are written in plain English, with Sanskrit kept to the names of the 27 nakshatras.

Begin with tonight's Moon.

A quiet place to notice how you feel as the Moon moves.
